End of Watch

June 18, 1960

During the hours after midnight on Saturday, June 17, 1961, several jeep teams composed of Patrol Inspectors from Calexico, California, tracked two illegal aliens to an alfalfa field. The jeep patrol encircled the field and at dawn requesting aerial patrol. Pilot Kenneth L. Carl proceeded to rendezvous with the jeep patrol making a low observation pass and capturing the first illegal alien. A repeated low pass over the field caused the engine to stall and crash. He was pronounced dead at scene.
